Creating Homes that Nurture Physical and Mental Health

Our homes are more than just a place to sleep and eat. They are our sanctuaries, where we can relax, rejuvenate, and care for our physical and mental well-being. Creating a home that nurtures our health is essential for a balanced and fulfilling life.

Over the years, my husband, an architect and I, a dancer, teacher, coach and budding psychologist, have made deliberate design and construction decisions in building and maintaining our home that reduce exposures to toxic chemicals, pathogens, and electromagnetic frequencies to minimize or eliminate some of the deleterious health impacts of our modern lives. We have also incorporated many features of our homes and lifestyles that aim to reduce negative environmental impacts.

I want to share ideas, tips, advice, and pitfalls we have experienced and collected over the years and make this a hub where everyone can contribute and teach me, too! The world is constantly changing: new innovations, information, and life circumstances compel us to keep searching for our best lives in health, relationships, passions, and achievements. Please join me in a most optimistic and inspiring conversation about collective well-being.

Fostering Passions and Cultivating Loving Environments

Our homes should also be a reflection of our passions and interests. Whether it’s art, music, cooking, or gardening, creating spaces that cater to our hobbies can bring us joy and fulfillment. Setting up a dedicated studio, installing a music corner, or designing a kitchen that inspires culinary creativity can encourage us to pursue our passions within the comfort of our own homes. Furthermore, our homes should be a place where our relationships can thrive. Cultivating loving environments means creating spaces that foster connection and communication. Designing a cozy living room with comfortable seating encourages quality time with loved ones. Having a well-equipped dining area can promote shared meals and meaningful conversations. It’s vital to prioritize spaces that allow for togetherness and bonding. In addition to physical spaces, the ambiance of our homes plays a crucial role in creating a loving environment. Soft lighting, soothing music, and pleasant scents can create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Paying attention to the small details, such as cozy blankets, family photos, and personalized decor, can make our homes feel more personal and intimate.
